City of Cambridge Scholarship Applications Now Available

The City Scholarship has awarded thousands of dollars to college-bound high school seniors and others who want to pursue higher education. Scholarships are possible thanks to the generosity of Cambridge residents, businesses and taxpayers who support the annual fund.

In FY12, the City awarded 50 scholarships of $2,500 each.

Applications may be obtained at Cambridge Public Schools, Cambridge Public Library branches and at Cambridge City Hall.  For more information, proceed here.


Get off your butt and take care of this, seniors!  Deadline is March 11, 2013.

Scholastic Art & Writing Awards

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are in their 90th year! Here's your chance to participate in the nation's longest-running, most prestigious educational initiative supporting student achievement in the visual and literary arts and today's largest source of scholarships for creative teens.

If you are a teenager in grades 7-12 (from public, private and home schools or an American-run school abroad) you are eligible to submit your art and writing for consideration.

Nancy Thorp Poetry Contest

This contest is sponsored by Hollins University and awards prizes for the best poems submitted by girls who are sophomores or juniors in high school.

First place (one winner): $200, plus free registration, transportation to, and housing for the Lex Allen Literary Festival at Hollins University on March 10, 2012.

Second place (six winners): $25 and publication in Cargoes.  Two copies of Cargoes.

Requirements: 
  • Students must be sophomores or juniors in high school
  • Poems must be submitted online
  • Students must have a faculty sponsor
  • Each student may submit no more than two poems (Microsoft Word or text document only)
  • Addtional pages must be labelled with the author's name, the title of the poem, and a page number.

Each entry must include:
  • Author's name
  • Author's mailing address
  • Author's phone number and or email address
  • Author's school
  • Address of author's school
  • Phone number of author's school


The deadline for this contest is Tuesday, November 15, 2011.

City of Cambridge Scholarship Apps


Listen up, college-bound! The city is offering scholarships, AKA money, cash, moolah, cheddar, benjamins, to eligible high school seniors and other pursuing higher education.

To be eligible, applicants must be attending or have received acceptance to attend an educational institution beyond the high school level prior to the time for payment of the scholarship award.

You can find applications at City Hall, 795 Massachusetts Avenue. There's also a bad link; I will post an update as soon as I find out what's going on with that.
