James Bond, Adele and Opening Theme Songs

Not even asking if you're planning to see Skyfall (out today in theatres!) because Duh.  Nor is this post about your favorite Bond film, your favorite Bond villain, or your favorite Bond.

Although this brief aside for my favorite Bond suit:
Look at him, now look back at me.

I was home sick yesterday, and in between drinking tea and using up all the Kleenex I heard this cool story on Here and Now about the music of James Bond films.  So today's question is: what do you consider to be the best Bond opening theme?

There's sure to be an ardent Goldfinger camp, with good reason.

But plenty of 80s babies prefer Duran Duran's A View to a Kill.

I have to include Tom Jones's Thunderball because the man passed out during the recording.  That's dedication, folks.

And Adele's Skyfall is just gorgeous.

What do you think?  Is there another Bond theme song you want to nominate as the Best of the Best?  I think we can all agree than when you're asked to record a Bond theme you have arrived.  It's champagne and Oscar nominations from here on out.

p.s. I would not be a good librarian if I didn't encourage you to check out Ian Fleming's Bond novels, which started it all.  They are super good; I checked 'em all out of this very library when I was a kid.

  1. We share a favorite Bond suit. I recently rewatched Casino Royale (this suit is at the end of that movie, right? or is it the beginning of Quantum of Solace), and my friend and I spent so long discussing that three piece suit we had to go back and watch the scene again.

Anyway, let's not forget Jack White and Alicia Keys. Swoon.
