Sarah Dessen Readalikes

I've been trying to find authors for Sarah Dessen fans who need something to read while they wait for the next Sarah Dessen book. Here are a couple of titles I've read recently:

Undercover by Beth Kephart
Elisa is a poet. She uses her talent with words to pen love notes, which her classmates pass off as their own to win over their crushes. Usually one note is all it takes for a successful match-up. But when Theo comes to Elisa for a note to woo popular Lila, she finds herself tired of playing Cyrano. A thoughtful story about love and finding the courage to speak (or write or iceskate!) for oneself.

The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han
Summer means the beach house. Belly's spent every summer of her life there, with her mother, her mother's best friend, Susannah, and Susannah's boys, Jeremiah and Conrad. Through her parents' divorce, Susannah's cancer, summer at the beach house is a constant. Jeremiah and Conrad treat Belly like a little sister (as if she needed another older brother) -- always keeping her a little bit on the outside.

Until this last summer when everything changes.

Other authors I would recommend are Maureen Johnson, Jay Asher, E. Lockhart, Catherine Murdock and Cecil Castellucci.

If you'd like a guy's POV, Chris Crutcher is a terrific choice. If you're looking for a darker read, both Kathe Koja and Laura Kasischke pull no punches.

Are there other authors you'd add to this list?
